5 - 15 August
Ground Floor Theatre Company presents
BAREFOOT IN THE PARK
Written by Neil Simon
“But that was a honeymoon. I thought you’d come home tonight and we’d shake hands and begin the marriage”
Up five flights of stairs - six, if you count the stoop - Paul and Cory Bratter are moving in. Fresh from their honeymoon the newlyweds are facing the rest of their lives together. Picking up where most romantic comedies leave off we see a young couple fight and fall in love in the tiniest of apartments where tensions can rise as quickly as the steam can get shut off. Add in a conservative mother, an intrusive neighbour and a dinner that no one is likely to forget; it’s the perfect storm.
Neil Simon’s charming 1963 romantic comedy was a box office smash during its Broadway debut. The master of finding the funny in the frustrating, Simon’s Barefoot in the Park is exactly that. At the centre of this heartfelt romp is a young couple facing the hardest question of all… How do we love each other?
Barefoot in the Park is the debut production of the emerging Ground Floor Theatre Company.
“A bubbling, rib-tickling comedy” – The New York Times | “ … classic charm that many will find irresistible.” – Suzy Goes See
